After “Radiant Persian Pair,” Dale Chihuly 2003
By Jeri Thereault
blossoms swell to globes
of swallowed summer
goldfinch-flit
canola field
crayola
kitchen lit
by biscuits &
lemons
pears in a bowl
two Fiesta creamers
one sunflower
one daffodil
saffron
sun-wild when heated
gamboge from Cambodian
pine resin & pale Indian yellow
cured from the urine
of mango-fed cows
yellower
still – this black-
lipped Persian pair
like the earrings Granddad
brought from France
their brittle swirl
even now
among the feathers
& stones
on the dresser
tart little wings
like Grandmother’s
kicked-up
yellow
skirts.
