RUMFORD – Five people are running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen while just enough people have stepped forward for the three SAD 43 Board of Directors positions.
Town Clerk M. Jane Giasson is being challenged for the two-year position by Marcia A. Chaisson.
Nomination papers were returned to the town office on Monday.
Seeking a seat are: J. Eugene Boivin, Robert J. Grinnell, Jolene S. Lovejoy, Arthur M. MacIssac and James E. Rinaldo.
Boivin of Walnut Street and Lovejoy of Porter Avenue are both incumbents. Boivin is seeking a third, three-year term, while Lovejoy is running for a fourth, three-year term.
Grinnell of Erchles Street is an Oxford County Sheriff’s deputy who works as a bail commissioner at 11th District Court. MacIssac of Isthmus Road is a member of the town’s Parks Commission. Rinaldo, a former selectman, is employed at MeadWestvaco. He lives at Smith Crossing on Route 108.
Seeking a second three-year term on the SAD 43 school board is Linda Westleigh, a resident of East Bethel Road. She is vice-chairwoman of the board and is employed at Franklin Savings Bank.
Former school board member and retired teacher David McKivergan of South Rumford Road, and Frank DiConzo, a retired postal worker and member of the town’s Finance Committee who lives on High Street, are seeking the positions currently held by Mary Hickey and Arthur Boivin, who didn’t seek re-election.
Giasson, town clerk for one year, deputy clerk for 16 years and a resident of Swift Avenue, is running for her first, full, two-year term. She is challenged by Marcia Chaisson, a resident of Knox Street, who previously worked for several years in the town’s welfare and town offices. She is also a notary public.
Running unopposed for their positions are: tax collector Carlo J. Puiia of Wheeler Street, who is seeking a fifth, two-year term, and Board of Assessors member Louise M. Horne of Hall Hill Road, who is seeking her first, full three-year term.
Elections take place on June 8.
