AUBURN – Central Maine Community College’s certificate in machine tool technology program begins May 14. There are still openings, according to a prepared statement from the college.

Qualifying students may take the courses free of charge.

This is a 29-credit program, offered in conjunction with the River Valley Technology Center. Participants will be able to complete the certificate by Dec. 16 and will be able to continue their education in the machine tool technology degree program at CMMC.

“We encourage anyone who is considering a career in precision manufacturing to look into this program, even if they are not certain that they have the skills to take college-level courses” said Diane Dostie, dean of Corporate and Community Services. “The River Valley Adult Education program is a partner in this project and will be available to provide assistance – at no charge – to those who need it.”

This is the final machine tool program under a special federal grant designed to offer high-tech training to dislocated workers in the Rumford-Mexico area, but anyone interested in a career in precision metal working is encouraged to apply.

Applications must be submitted by May 4; they may be obtained from the CareerCenters in Norway, Rumford or Wilton, or from the Central Maine Community College Web site: www.cmcc.edu/admissions. Applicants should mark “River Valley Technology Project” at the top of their application before submitting it.

To find out if they qualify for free courses, people should contact the Rumford CareerCenter at 364-3738 or 1-800-421-7915 or the Norway CareerCenter at 743-7763.
