ANDOVER – Paula P. Smith, a Republican, has announced her candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives, District 92. That district includes Andover, Rumford, Roxbury, Byron, Weld and Madrid, as well as Sandy River Plantation, Rangeley Plantation and unorganized territory of west central Franklin County.

She said her major concerns are the working climate of business, education and health care for the area’s older population.

Smith is retired from SAD 44 in Bethel where she had been employed 22 years as an elementary school librarian and bus driver. She is owner-operator of Wyman Hill orchard, a maple syrup producer in Andover. Smith has worked previously for Maine Street Realty and Ross Joly Realty in Bethel.

She is a member of historical societies of Andover, Dixfield, Carthage and Weld, and a former member of the Consolidated Board of Directors of the Rumford Community Hospital. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Rumford Community Home as well as the Developmental Board of the Rumford Hospital, where she is also a member of the auxiliary.

Smith is a director of the Maine Healthy Coalition and a member of the Northern Oxford Wellness board.

She belongs to the Maine Tree Farm System, Maine Maple Syrup Producers, SWOAM and Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. Smith is vice president of the Webb Lake Association.

A Sunday school teacher at Andover Congregational Church, she has also served as Sunday school superintendent.

She is married to William B. Smith Jr. and has three sons, one stepson and two stepdaughters. The Smiths share 22 grandchildren.
