A rash of car burglaries is also under investigation.
RUMFORD – A Florida woman was arrested early Friday morning after she reportedly flashed her headlights at a police officer patrolling Somerset Street.
Following the 2:35 a.m. incident, Karen L. Auderman, 31, of Bradenton, Fla., was charged by officer Paul Casey with operating under the influence and later released on $500 cash bail. She is slated to be arraigned on Oct. 7 in Rumford District Court.
“He’d spoken to her earlier (Thursday) and she flashed her headlights to have him stop,” said Officer Michael Halacy. “She stopped him because she thought he was cute. But after he spoke with her for a very short period of time, he noticed that she exhibited signs of intoxication.”
In other police news, officer David Bean is investigating a rash of parked car burglaries that occurred early Friday morning in the Porter Avenue area.
Halacy said that in all but one instance, glove compartments of the cars were rifled through and the contents dumped on the floor with nothing apparently taken.
However, a cell phone and loose change were taken after 2:30 a.m. from an unlocked vehicle parked at 510 Penobscot St., Halacy added.
Other car burglaries were reported at 307 Penobscot St., 41 Porter Ave., and 666 Kennebec St.
“No one saw or heard anything, but they’re all related,” Halacy said Monday afternoon.
