JAY – Police are investigating a report of a gross sexual assault that allegedly occurred on Maxwell Road on Monday.
A 15-year-old girl reported she was sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man she knew, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
The man, who was under house arrest with an electronic bracelet for a previous sex crime, had fled the scene, White said.
Police have not released his name.
The girl was treated by Franklin Memorial Hospital’s sexual assault response team, the chief said, and was referred to Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective David St. Laurent obtained an arrest warrant for the man, charging him with escape from house arrest, White said.
