JAY – A Jay man was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm after he fired a shot in the air during a civil dispute over logging, police said.

Wayne Whitehouse, 42, of Jay, called police Thursday to report criminal trespassing on his property on Intervale Road, said Jay Officer Russell Adams.

Adams said Whitehouse said he was not satisfied with the job a Livermore logging business was doing and wanted the crew off his property.

When the crew didn’t leave, Adams said, Whitehouse brought out a pistol and fired one shot in the air.

Jay Officer Roderick Small arrested Whitehouse.

Whitehouse was released from jail after posting $500 cash Friday. He has a Nov. 3 court date in Farmington.
