PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Lawrence K. Whittemore, aka Toe-Joe, 71, of Mexico passed away peacefully June 29, 2018, in Portsmouth, N.H., surrounded by those who who love him.
He was born July 7, 1946, in Rumford, the son of Kenneth Gilbert Whittemore and Mary Germaine (Hebert) Whittemore. He attended the Mexico School System, playing football, basketball, baseball, track, and was also voted class clown.
He served in the National Guard for six years. He was married to Judith Anne Boucher for 27 years, and raised two daughters.
He worked at Oxford/Boise Paper Co.for 42 years in the Core/Shipping Department, a job he made look easy. He loved going for long rides all over Maine and New Hampshire, whether on his motorcycle or snow machine in his early years, or getting behind the wheel of his Dodge Charger in his later years.
He was known for being a loving Dad and Papa. His big heart and his sense of humor earned him the nickname “The Gentle Giant.” Many remember his infamous Tarzan call, Donald Duck voices and let’s not forget Hutchie Kutchie.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Beverly Dorion, of Rumford.
He is survived by his daughters: Judilee Whittemore of Rumford and Sonya (Martin) Whittemore of Mexico; granddaughters: Tanya Martin, Hollie Vitale, Heather Theriault, Darbi Brown and Brena Brown; and great-grandchild, Carter Burke.
