FARMINGTON – A matching grant will fund the installation of a sidewalk from Temple Stream to Shop ‘n Save Drive on Wilton Road in West Farmington.
Town Manager Richard Davis said the $14,000 transportation enhancement grant would be matched by $7,000 from the town in either material or labor to cover the $21,000 project. The state Department of Transportation’s share is subject to available funding.
Davis said the 5-foot-wide sidewalk that would be built along the one-third mile stretch would make it safer for people walking, especially in the winter. Currently there is a “well worn path” people walk on, and because there is no sidewalk to be plowed, in the wintertime people are forced to walk in the road on busy Route 4.
