RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) – Vermont’s largest power company is warning about the dangers of cutting firewood near power lines.
Central Vermont Public Service Corp. spokesman Steve Costello says with the high cost of heating fuels, more people are cutting their own wood, and that the number of accidents in which trees fall into power lines is growing.
He says more than 50 outages have occurred this year due to felled trees falling into power lines.
The accidents can lead to power outages, injuries and even death for people who come in contact with high-voltage lines.
