BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) – The Brattleboro Select Board is prohibiting nudity in public areas of the town.

The town has struggled with the issue of whether to outlaw nudity since a handful of people started appearing naked in town. Last summer officials passed an emergency ordinance banning nudity, but it wasn’t made permanent.

Laura Austan told the Select Board restricting nudity was a slap in the face to tolerance and personal freedom. But Gary Gale says it’s intolerant to force someone to witness a nude person.

Town attorney Bob Fisher says its unlikely police would ticket someone for being nude at a known skinny dipping location.
