NASHUA, N.H. (AP) – A 20-year-old woman was charged with felony reckless conduct after a toddler she was babysitting swallowed some pills, police said Friday.

Esther Ngari fell asleep while babysitting an 18-month-old girl and a 6-month-old baby Thursday in her home, said Lt. Jeffrey Bukunt. The lid was not firmly on the bottle of pills.

After the children’s father picked them up, Ngari noticed her epilepsy medication had been touched, but did not tell the father, Bukunt said. The father noticed the girl was ill when he got her home.

She was treated at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, then flown to Boston Children’s Hospital, where she is in serious condition with possible organ damage, Bukunt said.

Ngari also faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child, because she did not alert the father, police said.
