PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A man being treated at Portsmouth Regional Hospital pulled a knife on a paramedic Tuesday and threatened to kill him, police said.
Jason Fuller was charged with criminal threatening, resisting arrest and assault. Police said that Fuller attacked paramedic Michael Sullivan while Fuller was being treated for a cut wrist.
Police said that Fuller held the knife to Sullivan’s chest while Fuller was being escorted from the emergency room. Police were called in, and officers subdued Fuller.
“After officers arrived, there was a brief struggle,” Officer Aaron Goodwin said. “Pepper spray was used to subdue the subject. Again he struggled and was brought into custody outside the emergency room.”
In court, police said Fuller has a long criminal history, including previous convictions for assault and battery and criminal threatening. He also was wanted in Massachusetts on a charge of violating a restraining order, but Massachusetts officials said they did not plan to seek extradition.
Fuller’s bail was set at $20,000.
