BOSTON (AP) – Parts of the Ted Williams Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday night as workers prepare for the anticipated reopening of a portion of the Big Dig shut down since a fatal accident in July.
A single lane of the Williams Tunnel westbound will be shut down Monday from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday night both lanes of the westbound tunnel will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The closures are needed so workers can repaint lane markers for cars leaving the Williams Tunnel and entering the Interstate 90 connector tunnel when it reopens.
A spokesman for Turnpike Authority said the decision to repaint lanes doesn’t mean a decision to reopen the connector tunnel is imminent. Federal highway administration must sign off on the repairs.
before the tunnel can open again to traffic.
On July 10, Milena Del Valle, 39, was killed when several of the concrete ceiling panels fell on the car in which she was a passenger. Her husband, who was driving, escaped with minor injuries.
