MILFORD, Conn. (AP) – Police and other city officials are taking another look at the idea of a curfew following a brawl mall over the weekend.
The officials will take another look at the proposal to increase security at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall and imposing a curfew for those under 18.
The melee Saturday night involved hundreds of youths.
Police Chief Keith Mello said it is believed the teenagers involved were there for a high school dance party at a restaurant. They later wound up at the mall’s food court, and that’s where the trouble began, witnesses said.
Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr., who happened to be at the mall with his teenage daughter when the melee erupted, said the restaurant will be investigated and that state officials from the Department of Liquor Control and state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, will be contacted.
“There were just too many people in there for that venue,” he said. “We want to make sure the patrons of the mall and our young people are safe.”
Nine arrests were made in connection with the incident and five people were treated for minor injuries. The mall also was forced to close early.
