SALEM, N.H. (AP) – Authorities believe a dog trying to get a box of doughnuts accidentally started a fire that damaged a home during the weekend.

Saturday’s fire displaced a family of five and killed the dog.

No one was home at the time, but fire officials believe the black lab apparently tried to reach the box of doughnuts that was on top of a toaster oven, and accidentally turned on the toaster. That ignited the doughnut box, and flames spread through the kitchen and the front of the home.
