MECHANIC FALLS — A portion of the property formerly known as the Harvest Hill Farms on Pigeon Hill Road will become a small-engine racing park called Redneck Fun Park.
The Mechanic Falls Planning Board on Monday night approved the application submitted by Matthew Weeks of Greene. The farm is the site of the “haunted hayride” accident that killed 17-year-old Cassidy Charette and injured dozens in October 2014.
Weeks plans to build a 200-foot-by-400-foot obstacle course for motorized vehicles under four cylinders, and run individual time trials for ATVs, dirt bikes and, in winter, snowmobiles.
It will be a flat, oval-shaped track. Weeks hopes to have the track ready before summer’s end. The days of operation will be the second and fourth weekends of each month, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is expected to be $10 per person.
Weeks said the name, Redneck Fun Park, is meant to reflect a “family fun” atmosphere for “good people to get together and have fun.”
He added, “All the drinking, all the party stuff like that can all stay somewhere else.”
