DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the question about where to get peaches in July 16 Sun Spots, I checked with Boothby Orchards in Livermore and their trees aren’t bearing fruit this year, but Berry Fruit Farm in Livermore will have ripe peaches at the end of August. There’s nothing like a locally grown peach!

—Marilyn, Leeds

ANSWER: Thanks for sharing that information, Marilyn. So glad you found your peaches! Peaches are persnickety to grow in Maine, with colder winters as well as spring thaws followed by later freezes really affecting those delicate buds and I’ve heard this wasn’t the best year for them.

I may take a trip out to Livermore myself. I spoke to the cheery Melissa at the farm and she said they are indeed expecting their peaches soon. This is not pick-your-own; the peaches are sold in the farm stand only. There will be a post on the farm’s Facebook page when the peaches are ready, but for now, they have raspberries! Berry Fruit Farm is located at 361 Crash Road. Their phone number is 207-897-4767.

ANSWER: I have to say that volunteering at a thrift shop is fun. I really like having a hand at sorting through all the “stuff” and seeing the smiles on customers’ faces when they find a treasure and/or a bargain. If you have a couple spare hours a month and live in the Lovell area, here is your big chance to help out and make some new friends.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m desperate to have my floors cleaned and have tried every kind of cleaner. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

ANSWER: I love my Shark brand steamer that I purchased a couple years ago for about $75. It’s light and really easy to use and there’s no scrubbing or being on your hands and knees! It works great on both wood and tile floors. Readers, do you have tips?
