DEAR SUN SPOTS: In reply to Jimmy’s letter that appeared in the July 23 Sun Spots, my parents were friends of Dick Fortier and his wife, Roselle Coury. They lived on Haley Street in Lewiston with their children Nancy, Richard and Steve. They have both passed away.
One of Roselle’s contemporaries is radio personality Connie Cote, who, I believe, still works in radio on Big Z (92.7 and 105.5 FM/1240 AM), with her show airing on Sunday mornings. Jimmy may want to try contacting her or he can contact me by email at deeddumais@gmail.com or at 207-740-4882. Hope this helps.
—Dee, Auburn
ANSWER: Thanks for this information! The phone number for Big Z is 207-784-5868.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you or your readers know where I might be able to purchase the green stay-fresh lettuce bags that are supposed to keep your lettuce fresh longer? Thanks for your help.
—Peggy, Mexico
ANSWER: These bags really do work well. They are BPA-free and can be re-used at least 10 times. I have also seen them at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Walmart in the “As Seen on TV” aisle and in grocery stores in the produce department. The bags can also be ordered from Amazon. They come in various sizes and a box of 10 is under $10. Readers, if you’ve seen these bags anywhere else, please drop Sun Spots a note!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where did Don Orsillo, the NESN Red Sox announcer go? He and Jerry Remy got along great and he had a great baseball voice. Where did his replacement Dave O’Brien come from?
—No name, Peru
ANSWER: According to an interview on NBC Sports, Don doesn’t really know exactly why his position ended with the Red Sox. However, the New Englander is enjoying his time in sunny California where he has a six-year contract with the San Diego Padres.
Dave O’Brien, also a native New Englander, previously worked for ESPN, handling play-by-play of MLB, NBA, college basketball and soccer games, including Major League Soccer’s MLS Primetime Thursday and United States men’s national soccer team telecasts. He replaced Don in his position of primary play-by-play announcer in 2016.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On the front page of the newspaper on July 12 there was an article stating that Lewiston-Auburn issues $94 million in commercial permits, and on page C5 of the same paper a half-dozen foreclosures were listed. Could Sun Spots find out how many Lewiston-Auburn homesteaders are not currently up to date with their property taxes? I think these numbers should be on the front page with the title being, “Reality Check L-A.” Thanks. I love your column.
—Jeffrey, Auburn
ANSWER: I believe this would be a question for the tax accessor offices in each city and because this number fluctuates frequently, it would be best to call both offices. I’m not sure this is public information, but the city employees who work in the accessor’s offices can handle your questions and guide you in the right direction. For the City of Lewiston, call 207-513-3122. For the City of Auburn, the number is 207-333-6601, ext. 1118.
As far as this information being on the front page of the Sun Journal, that’s beyond the scope of Sun Spots, but I will pass your suggestion on to the editor.
