BRIDGTON — Hazel G. Holden, 94, of Fryeburg passed from this life Friday, July 13, at Bridgton Health Care Center.
She was the youngest of seven children of Ernest and Alma Gurney, born in 1923 in Hebron, where she spent her early years until the family moved to Norway in 1936, after the untimely death of her father. She was a graduate of Norway High School.
In 1947. she married Richard L. Holden of North Bridgton, where they made their home until 1978, when they moved to Fryeburg. They were married for 66 years, until Richard’s death in 2013.
Throughout the years, she was a homemaker and a helpmate to her husband and family, to whom she was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a member of the North Bridgton Congregational Church, the Conway Church of Christ and the North Conway Baptist Church.
In her later years, she selflessly acted as Richard’s caregiver as his health deteriorated, until her own health finally gave out.
She is survived by her four children: Gary and his partner, Loren; Craig and his wife, Melissa; Dale and his wife, Mary; and Terry and his wife, Antoinette; and by her grandchildren Lisa, Richard, Emily, Jeremy, Daniel, Michael, Adrienne and Sarah; her great-grandchildren Miranda, Kayla and Liam; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Richard; her daughter-in-law, Patricia (Ross) Holden; and all of her siblings.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Bridgton Health Care Center and Beacon Hospice for their care and support over these past several years.
