PEBBLE BEACH — Maine natives Will Kannegieser and Jack Wyman both missed the cut at the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday.
Kannegieser, of Minot, shot a second-round 85 (13-over) at Spyglass Hill Golf Course. That followed up a 7-over-par 78 in Monday’s first round.
Kannegieser’s round Tuesday was highlighted by a birdie on the 14th hole.
Wyman, of Freeport, shot an 82 for the second day in a row to finish at 21-over. He played his first round at par-72 Spyglass, and his second round at par-71 Pebble Beach.
Wyman birdied the fourth and 18th holes during Tuesday’s round.
Late Tuesday, with still a few players on the California courses, the cut was projected to be 3-over-par.
Slattery reaches Match Play quarterfinals
FALMOUTH — Minot’s Andrew Slattery advanced to the quarterfinals of the Maine Match Play Invitational with a pair of wins Tuesday at Falmouth Country Club.
Slattery defeated Scott Sirois, 6 and 5, in the first round and then defeated fellow Martindale Country Club member Brian Bilodeau, 1 up, in the second round.
Slattery will face Andrew Kane on Thursday morning. The winner of that match will face the winner between Cole Anderson and Dustin Freeman, later in the day.
Bilodeau opened the tournament with a 3 and 2 win over Peter Wright.
Auburn’s Craig Chapman also reached the second round, defeating Mike Doran, 2 and 1, and then losing to Drew Glasheen, also 2 and 1.
Jace Pearson, also of Auburn, lost in the first round to Ricky Jones, 1 up.
The Match Play championship will be played Thursday.
Plourde wins Janet Drouin
VASSALBORO — Bailey Plourde won the 2018 Janet Drouin Memorial Tournament by 11 strokes at Natanis Golf Club on Tuesday.
Plourde, who plays at Centre College in Kentucky, improved on her even-par first-round score with a round of 2-under in Tuesday’s final round.
Turner’s Mia Hornberger, 13, finished in second place with an overall score of 9-over par.
Hornberger’s mother, Prudence, placed 10th at 23-over. Hartford’s Ruby Haylock came in 12th, and fellow Turner Highlands member Morghan Dutil tied for 13th. Also in the top 20 were Melissa Johnson, of Martindale Country Club, at 16th, and another Turner Highlands golfer, Karen Richardson in 19th.
