Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for used camping equipment for 12 boys ages 14 to 17. I am trying to help initiate a program for boys in care and treatment, and we believe that outdoor experiences would greatly enhance their personal growth and development. I especially need small backpack tents, washable sleeping bags and pack frames. I am able to do some minor repairs and can travel within about 50 miles of Rumford to pick up items. Perhaps someone has updated their equipment or there are old Scouters that no longer need the small backpack tents. I can be reached at blongway@peoplepc.com or 364-3557. Thank you. – No Name, Rumford.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, you might want to check with your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store, which may have some on hand. In addition, Sun Spots would encourage you to also check your local Play it Again Sports store where such items can also be found for a pretty reasonable cost.

Dear Sun Spots: We need academic/Literacy Volunteer tutors.

SAD36/Jay Adult and Community Learning Center, located at 19 Main St. in Livermore Falls, is seeking tutors to assist in various areas for individuals involved in improving their basic literacy and/or math skills for daily use; individuals working toward their GED or high school diploma; parents involved with our new CATCH the Web family literacy project.

We now have a satellite Literacy Volunteers office (same location). Our LV assistant coordinator, Cindy Langewisch, is available to interested adult ( 18 years of age through retirees) volunteers to discuss the various opportunities. Thank you for considering how you can make a difference. Remember, if you can help one person, you could change the world! – Cindy Langewisch, No Town.
