LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Monday evening set the tax rate at $16 per $1,000 valuation, a 40-cent drop from last year.
Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said she and town assessor Paul Binette reviewed the numbers. She said a rate of $15.80 per $1,000 valuation would result in an overlay of $99,029; $15.90 would make the overlay $118,420 and $16 gives an overlay of $137,810.
Byron said the town’s tax commitment could range from $15.28 to $16.05 per $1,000 valuation.
Selectperson Wayne Timberlake said the town hasn’t used a tax anticipation note for several years and should keep the commitment high enough to avoid one next year.
Selectperson Tom Gould said, “Don’t cut too fast. $16 gives us a little room.”
The board accepted the $4,800 bid by Merrill Garage Inc. of Jay to remove, rebuild and reinstall the body of the Fire Department’s rescue truck. Spruce Mountain Truck Medics of Livermore offered $8,052 to do the work.
Fire Chief Donald Castonguay said Merrill had the equipment and a lift to cut down the time needed. Merrill has done the department’s other work in the past year.
Selectpersons Mark Chretien, Wayne Timberlake and Tom Gould voted for Castonguay’s recommendation. Scott Richmond and Benjamin Guild, who are members of the Fire Department, abstained.
Selectpersons unanimously approved Livermore Concrete Foundations’ bid for a concrete pad at the transfer station, once the size has been decided. Owners Jason Gibbs and Zach Blaisdell quoted $8,980 for a 50- by 50-foot pad and $7,300 for a 40- by 50-foot pad.
Henderson Construction of Oxford bid $13,800 for the 50- by 50-foot pad and $11,300 for the 40- by 50-foot pad.
KMT, owned by Kevin Therrien of Jay, bid $15,564 for the smaller pad and $18,100 for the larger one.
Gould said asking for bids for both pad sizes gives the board flexibility.
Chretien said there should be space for the larger pad. He will meet with attendant Juanita Bryant and take measurements to determine which size to go with.
