LEWISTON — Clement Roger Desjardins, 92, a former resident of Livermore and Jay, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 27, at Woodlands Senior Living Care in Lewiston.
He was born in Jay on Feb. 7, 1926, the son of Adolphe and Eugenie (Parent) Desjardins. He was educated in Jay schools and graduated from Jay High School in 1945, where he had been an Eagle Scout and baseball player. He joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. When he returned home, he married Lucille Poulin at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay on Oct. 30, 1948, after meeting her at the local ice cream parlor. They enjoyed 62 years together before her passing Jan. 8, 2011. Together they raised six children in a house he built and later remodeled himself to accommodate their growing family. This was accomplished over his 40-year mill career at International Paper, working as a foreman on No.3 paper machine. He also built a beautiful camp on Long Pond in Livermore that was enjoyed for many years by family and friends. Clement was active in fixing everything himself, at his house, the camp or his cars.
He enjoyed fishing (especially on the ice) and gardening. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, and also active in the church, the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree knight and volunteered regularly on beano night. He was a member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club and was a Jay High School board member and chairman while his children attended school.
He is survived by his six children and their spouses: Leona (Rick) Dugas of Venice, Fla., Dennis (Sylvia) Desjardins of North Turner, Peter (Ann) Desjardins of Lafayette, Ind., Jeanne (Michael) Hammell of Lake in the Hills, Ill., Paula (Phil) Swan of Westbrook and Jon (Karen) Desjardins of Hebron, Conn. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Michael, Rachel, Christina, Kevin, Brian, Colleen, Emily, Alison, Jacquelyn, Joseph and Joshua; along with 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lucille; his brothers, Jean-Paul, Charles and Bernard Desjardins; and his sister, Sister Germaine Desjardins.
