Benefit for Dunham planned
RUMFORD – Get ready to eat, drink and be merry!
The family of Tasha Clark Dunham is throwing a blowout benefit for Dunham and her husband, Desmond. It’s to help them offset the cost of their expenses and health insurance as Tasha undergoes treatment for Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
While undergoing chemotherapy, as she has for several months now and will through next March, Tasha is unable to work. She also must travel to Boston to meet with her doctor.
“We want to help them maintain,” said Nancy Morgan, executive director of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area and aunt to Desmond and Tasha. Morgan, along with her sister Anita, Tasha’s mother-in-law, and their husbands, David and Jeff, respectively, have helped organize the bash.
“Any little bit we can do to help their lives be a little less worry-free would mean a lot.”
The buffet-style dinner will feature chicken potpie and shepherd’s pie, and include drinks, desserts, side dishes, salads and rolls. Afterwards, there will be a silent auction, a Chinese auction and a dance. It’s being held in Rumford since both Tasha’s husband and father-in-law work for Irving’s Wood Products in Dixfield, just minutes away from Rumford.
Morgan hopes the benefit will help lift the young couple’s already high spirits. “Anyone who has been through what this young lady has been through and will go through, whether it be themselves or a family member, should come and give her some good feedback and help her keep that wonderful, positive attitude,” she said.
For Morgan, throwing a benefit is the least she can do to help out a relatively new member of her family whom she has quickly grown to love and respect.
“I am a softy. From the bottom of my heart, I just love the two of them (Tasha and Desmond) to death and I just hate to see anyone suffer, especially when it’s family.”
