The annual meeting happened to coincide with the governor’s schedule.
AUBURN – Gov. John Baldacci will join councilors from Lewiston and Auburn Monday night for an informal supper.
“He just happened to be available Monday night, so we invited him along to a joint meeting of the councils,” said Mark Adams, Auburn’s Assistant City Manager. “There is no particular agenda. It’s just an impromptu thing, and should be pretty informal.”
The two city councils meet jointly each spring at the beginning of their budget sessions. Adams said that annual meeting happened to coincide with the governor’s schedule. Baldacci will be next door at the Auburn Public Library Monday afternoon for a kickoff of a community-wide reading program.
“We expect the governor to talk about the state’s budget and the impacts on communities like Lewiston-Auburn,” Adams said. “We might have some other questions for him as well, like the economy.”
The dinner is scheduled to last from 5 to 6 p.m., and councilors from both cities will continue with their joint meeting afterward. That agenda includes discussion about city budgets and talk about consolidating some Lewiston, Auburn and Androscoggin County services.
