AUBURN — Claire Alice Tennyson, 71, a long-term resident of Greene, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, Sept. 2, at the Androscoggin Hospice Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Lewiston on July 9, 1947, the daughter of Fernand Courtemanche and Irene Rancourt. In 1965, she graduated from St. Dominic Catholic High School. She married the love of her life, Charles (“Chuck”) R. Tennyson, on April 18, 1970.

Her immediate survivors include two sons and four grandchildren: Eric (Melanie) and their two daughters of Cape Elizabeth; and Andrew (Denise) and their daughter and son of Indianapolis.

Claire is predeceased by her husband; her beloved brother, Dennis; and her furry companion, Jasper.

She is survived by the Courtemanche clan siblings, including Don, Dick, Roland, Gile, Bob, Doris, Linda and Paul, their spouses and a gaggle of nieces and nephews.

Claire’s personal philosophy of putting others first was evident in both her professional and personal life, working in the social services, the medical industry and as a visiting angel caregiver in her later years. A paragon of prayer, she was active in many prayer circles and in the church. You may not realize it, but she has likely prayed for you reading this.
