DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for your column of very helpful material. Hope you can help me. Billy Currington has a hit song on Great American Country called “People Are Crazy.” Could you please print the words for this song for me? I know most of them but can’t make out the rest. I would appreciate it if you can help me. Thank you. — C.H., No Town
ANSWER: The first place Sun Spots found this song was at www.cowboylyrics.com, but the lyrics didn’t ring true, so she listened to the song while reading them, and discovered that the words had been tampered with. Damn was turned to darn and hell to heck, but, most interesting, they turned “beer is good” to “beer is bad.” Tough to say what they were trying to accomplish. The correct lyrics were available at www.kovideo.net and other sites.
This old man and me, were at the bar and we
Were having us some beers and swapping I don’t cares
Talking politics, blonde and red-head chicks
Old dogs and new tricks and habits we ain’t kicked
We talked about God’s grace and all the hell we raised
Then I heard the ol’ man say;
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy
He said “I fought two wars,
Been married and divorced”
What brings you to Ohio?
He said “Damn if I know”
We talked an hour or two about every girl we knew
What all we put them through
Like two old boys will do
We pondered life and death
He lit a cigarette
He said “These damn things will kill me yet;
But God is great, beer is good and people are crazy”
Last call it’s 2 a.m., I said goodbye to him
I never talked to him again
Then one sunny day, I saw the old man’s face
Front-page obituary, he was a millionairee
he left his fortune to some guy he barely knew, his kids were mad as hell
But me, I’m doing well
And I drop by today, to just say thanks and pray,
I left a six-pack right there on his grave and I said;
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Norway, Otisfield, South Paris and Oxford fire departments are organizing a public supper to benefit Jim and Maxine Perkins, who lost their home to fire recently. Jim and Maxine have served on the Oxford Fire Department for nearly 20 years and have always been there to help out the town in anyway possible. Due to poor health, Jim is retiring from the department.
The supper will be held at the South Paris Fire Station on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will consist of baked ham, potatoes, salads, rolls, vegetables, casserole dishes and pie. A $7 donation is appreciated.
This is a very busy time of year, and those who are willing to walk away from families day or night or during any holiday are again giving their time to help a fellow firefighter. We hope you find it in your heart to five us an hour of your time to make this supper a success. May you all have a safe and happy holidays.
