BANGOR — Lucy Nickerson died at St Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor, Monday, Sept. 17, after a long illness.
Lucy was born in Newfoundland, Canada, June 23, 1936. She was the daughter of Richard and Nora Gleeson of Topsail, Newfoundland.
Lucy came from a large family with seven brothers and three sisters. All are deceased except for her sister, Helen, age 86.
On Oct. 24, 1963, she married John Nickerson, a Navy man stationed at the U.S. Naval Base in Argentia, Newfoundland.
They had two children, Sean and Kathleen, both born at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Argentia.
Shortly after the birth of Kathleen they left Newfoundland and began 20 years of traveling the world as a Navy family. Their last duty station was Rota, Spain, where her husband retired from the Navy. They remained in Spain for a year, and in 1987 returned to the U.S. and settled in Maine.
A memorial service will be held at the Avalon Village Manor House in Hampden. All her friends and relatives are invited to attend.
