LEWISTON — Rita J. Morin, 85, formerly of Brault St. in Lewiston, died peacefully Friday morning, Sept. 28, at Montello Commons following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 26, 1932, to the late Desiree and Marie Lou (Larochelle) St. Pierre. Rita was educated in Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of the community. She married Marcel Martin in 1954. Rita later married Gerard A. Morin of Lewiston on Aug. 25, 1972, and together they settled on Brault Street to raise their children.

Rita dedicated 34 years to St. Peter’s Parish Federal Credit Union in Lewiston, which later became Community Credit Union, until her retirement as a loan officer in 1997.

She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Council 106 in Lewiston. Rita was also a past queen of the Knights of Columbus May Ball. Among her favorite enjoyments were sewing and reading. Rita was a hardworking, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 46 years, Gerard Morin, of Lewiston; two daughters, Lynn Chouinard and husband, Richard, of Bedford, Texas, and Donna Dresser and husband, Dan, of North Carolina; four sons, David Martin and wife, Lillian, of Lewiston, Dennis Martin and wife, Dianne, of Malta, N.Y., Marc Morin and his wife, Kim, of Triangle, Va., and Daniel Morin and wife, Jessika, of Gorham; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her three younger siblings, Muriel Ouellette of Lewiston, Roger St. Pierre and his wife and her dearest friend, Rachel, of Lewiston and Marcel St. Pierre of Lewiston; as well several nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff and her friends at Montello Commons. Rita was treated like family and was very happy during her stay, and for that they are forever grateful.

All are invited to come as you are and join the family as they remember her at a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, Holy Family Church. The family will be celebrating her life by wearing a touch of lavender and ask that you join them if you wish. Committal prayers for the immediate family only will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
