Approximately 500 plants, trees and shrubs, valued at $15,000, were pulled from Newbury Street Park on Main Street and thrown into the Androscoggin River, Auburn police Sgt. Don Hamel said. Over 400 newly planted shrubs and trees were retrieved Monday from the river behind Florian’s Market where the park is still under construction, but it is unknown if any will live. Police believe the incident took place overnight Sunday and request anyone with information to call 789-7331.
