Squaring off in a full-on debate the four candidates hoping to replace Republican Gov. Paul LePage in Maine have taken to the stage at the University of New England’s Portland campus. The debate, co-sponsored by the Portland Press Herald and UNE, started at about 7:04 and is scheduled to run for about 90 minutes at UNE’s Innovation Hall, the former National Guard Armory on Stevens Avenue.
All four gubernatorial candidates – Republican businessman Shawn Moody, Democrat and Maine Attorney General Janet Mills, independent and Maine state Treasurer Terry Hayes, and independent business owner and consultant Alan Caron – are in attendance at the forum. Portland Press Herald columnist Bill Nemitz and editorial page editor Greg Kesich are serving as panelists while business editor Carol Coultas is moderating the debate.
