JAY — On Friday, November 24, the Jake Lord Play It Safe Foundation will be hosting its 7th annual Alumni Basketball Games at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay, ME. Alumni basketball players from our community will challenge the current boys and girls basketball teams from Spruce Mountain High School. In addition, this year the Spruce Mountain Varsity Basketball Teams will compete in a preseason exhibition gamewith rival teams from Mt. View with the girls’ game tipping off a 6 p.m. while the boys’ game will start at 7:3 p.m.
The girls’ alumni team will play at 4 p.m. while the boys’ alumni team will play at 5 p.m.
There will be raffle prizes, 50/50, concessions, games during the event. Donations accepted at the door. All proceeds benefit the Jake Lord Play It Safe Foundation.
In preparation for the event, we are reaching out to community members, local businesses and corporations to help sponsor the games. Sponsorship levels include: Bronze ($25), Silver ($50), Gold ($100), All-Star ($500) and Champion ($1,000). All sponsors will be recognized at the event for their generous contributions. Donations for raffle items will also be accepted.
The Jake Lord Play it Safe Foundation was founded in 2012 in memory of Jake Lord, a star athlete and Jay native who took his own life at the age of 18 after enduring multiple sports related concussions.
The mission of the Jake Lord Play It Safe Foundation is to promote safety in youth sports, to increase public awareness of the impact of concussions on the mental health athletes. It’s also to promote public policies that will protect youth from the devastating consequences of head injuries.
