PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine Sen. Susan Collins says there is not a direct tie between the man arrested in South Portland and the Times Square suspect.
Authorities say three Pakistani men who supplied funds to Times Square car-bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad were arrested Thursday in a series of raids across the Northeast. Investigators said it was not yet clear whether the three men knew how the money was going to be used.
The men — two seized in the Boston area, one in Maine — were arrested on immigration violations, not criminal, charges.
Collins says there is no indication that there’s any sort of terrorism plot that would put the people of Maine at risk.
