Snow map for Tuesday into Wednesday (WGME)
Maine’s next storm system will bring snow and possibly some coastal rain late Tuesday through Wednesday morning.
Here’s how we expect the storm to evolve.
TIMING: Very light snow gets going during the afternoon Tuesday. Most of the accumulating snow gets going between 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The snow/mix/rain ends Wednesday morning. The sun should be back by late morning.
TYPE: Snow is expected through about 1 a.m. Wednesday. A change to rain or freezing rain is expected midnight-5 a.m. at the coast. A brief change back to snow is possible Wednesday morning as the storm pulls away.
HOW MUCH: Totals should range from just a few inches at the immediate coast to around a foot in some mountain towns.
Any leftover snow/rain will come to an end Wednesday morning. In fact, we’ll see a return to some sun by mid-day for most of southern and central Maine.
The big weather story mid-to-late week will be the return of modified arctic air.
Temperatures will have a hard time getting out of the single digits for highs Thursday.
Those highs will moderate into the teens and twenties by the weekend.
