LIVERMORE FALLS — Two people were taken to a hospital Sunday night to be treated for smoke inhalation from a fire that destroyed a mobile home at 10 Laurel Lane, Deputy Fire Chief Scott Shink said Monday.

Five adults and two children younger than 8 were at the home of Timothy and Audrey Smiley. An adult and a child were taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Shink said.

Firefighters responded to the home for a possible electric fire in the ceiling. It was reported at 6:04 p.m.

When Livermore Falls police officer Stephen E. Gould arrived at the scene off Pine Ridge Loop, he reported smoke showing from the roof, Shink said. Gould tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher but was not successful. When firetrucks arrived, flames were showing from an addition and the main living area, including the living room.

A state fire investigator is determining the cause, Shink said.

There was no insurance on the home, Shink said.

About 35 firefighters from Livermore Falls, Livermore, Jay, Wilton, Fayette, Leeds and Wayne, along with NorthStar EMS and Winthrop Rescue ambulances responded.

The American Red Cross of Maine said in a news release Monday morning that it was in touch with a family of five to ensure they have food, housing and other essentials. Disaster responders were expected to meet with the family Monday.

The family stayed with family members Sunday night, Shink said.

It is the second fire within two weeks in the mobile home park area. On Feb. 2, a fire claimed the lives of two dogs and destroyed a mobile home on Pine Ridge Loop. The cause was undetermined.
