LEWISTON — The Lewiston Maineiacs are playing their one and only home preseason game today, Saturday. Follow along here to see updates from the matchup against the Victoriaville Tigres.
6:32 p.m. – This is the final bit from here tonight. Lewiston takes home a 5-2 win, and will next play here on Sept. 10.
5:51 p.m. – The vets strike again, and give the Maineiacs the lead back. This time, Bissonette with the goal from Stef Fournier and Matt Myers, a late addition to the lineup after Jonah Coonishish-Coion was scratched.
5:50 p.m. – Lewiston evens the game at 2-2 on a Sam Henley goal. He catches a pass in the low slot from Brodeur and slips is low near side for the goal. 11:21 to play in the third, 2-2.
5:27 p.m. – The only goal of the second frame was another power play marker for the visitors. This time, Carl-Antoine Delisle cleaned up a mess in front, slipping the puck through a pileup in front of Kennedy to put Victoriaville in front for the first time.
Kennedy gave way to Andrey Makarov midway through the second. Kennedy finished his afternoon with 15 saves on 17 shots. Makarov finished his half a period with six saves on as many shots.
Things also got a bit chippy in the middle frame. The teams combined for 28 minutes in penalties, including a scrap between Pierre-Olivier Morin and Vincent Marcoux.
5:10 p.m. – The Internet connection here is too spotty to be able to give you much live stuff, but we’ll try. Victo has taken a 2-1 lead here in the second on another PP goal, this one on a sweeping shot through a pileup. Makarov has replaced Kennedy in the Lewiston cage.
4:46 p.m. – The first period ends with the Maineiacs and Tigres even at 1-1. Kind of a choppy frame, not much flow, as can be expected since the Maineiacs have been on the ice together for all of three days.
4:31 p.m. – Morin a penalty for Lewy and it’s a 4-on-3 for Victo that will turn into a 5-on-4 for Victo briefly.
4:29 p.m. – Our first fight comes after a hitting after the whistle penalty on Maxime Simard from Victo. Brodeur from Lewiston engages with Dominik Crnogorac. And Crnogorac gets an instigating minor, too, and Lewy gets a 5-on-3.
4:26 p.m. – Penalty to the Maineiacs over, back to full strength. Victo outshooting the Maineiacs 10-7 with 3:18 to play in the first.
4:24 p.m. – Marc-Antoine Rousseau to the box for interference, negating a pretty good scoring chance for the Maineiacs. 5 minutes left in the first.
4:18 p.m. – Apologies for the delays. Internet connection here is spotty. The Tigres get a PP on a Henley trip, and 20-year-old Chris Doyle capitalizes to even the game at 1-1, 9:30 to play in the first.
4:03 p.m. – Anthems now, hockey soon. Starting in net for Lewiston, Jordan Kennedy. For Victo, Jean-Michel Fortier. On the ice for Lewy: Carrier, Renaud, Bissonette, Fournier, Beauvillier.
3:58 p.m. – The ice is sparkling new again and the training staffs from each side had readied the benches. The first full game of the Lewiston Maineiacs’ preseason, and the first game against players from another squad, is about 15 minutes out.
3:40 p.m. – Players from both squads, in full gear and jerseys but with no nameplates, of course, are on the ice for warmups. Bizarre to see some of these players wearing numbers that you’d normally associate with other players.
