Here are five football blogs I recommend to football fans. Sorry, we don’t allow links on our blogs for some reason, but they’re all easy to find:

1. coldhardfootballfacts.com — Funny, politically incorrect and terrific analysis. No site challenges the myths of the sport it covers more frequently (the way it dispells the widely held beliefs about the AFL/NFL rivalry in the 1960s is a revalation). You’ll never look at football the same way again. It doesn’t have the quantity of content of most blogs, but it more than makes up for it in quality.

2. profootballtalk.com — The best breaking football news source on the web. Analysis is so-so, but the reader comments section is always entertaining, almost Deadspin-like.

3. profootballfocus.com — Some paid content, but the free stuff is good. Their breakdowns of the games put all NFL pregame and postgame shows to shame.

4. footballoutsiders.com — Another hardcore data and analysis site. If you enjoy the Bill James/sabermetrics approach to baseball, this is the football equivalent.

5. Mike Reiss on espn.com/boston — A must for Patriots fans. Reiss is easily the most even-handed reporter on the Patriots’ beat and does a spectacular job with both information and analysis. Reiss and frequent guest Tedy Bruschi do an excellent job breaking down the x’s-and-o’s of each game. And Tedy’s no homer, either.
