Two sources within the Lewiston Maineiacs’ organization confirmed late Friday afternoon that Matthew Bissonnette, one of the team’s top skaters, will return to the lineup for tonight’s game in Quebec against patrick Roy’s Remparts.
Bissonnette had been attending the Philadelphia Flyers’ rookie training camp as an invited player this week, and played in last week’s home-opener before shipping out with teammate Michael Chaput, a Philly draft pick, to camp.
Chaput has been invited to the Flyers’ main camp, but Bissonnette has not, and met the team en route to Quebec on Friday.
“He is the only one,” Maineiacs’ coach J.F. Houle said Friday.
Five other Lewiston players were also either drafted or invited to professional camps this past week. One other player, defenseman Sam Finn, has also been released from his tryout, his with the San Jose Sharks. But his arrival is not expected until Monday, since he is traveling from out west.
Pierre-Olivier Morin (Vancouver), Chaput (Philadelphia), Sam Carrier (Washington) and Nicholas Champion (Montreal) will all attend their teams’ respective main training camps.
Because of the continued player shortage, the Maineiacs will retain 16-year-old draft pick Brayden Wood, a defenseman, on his call-up as a junior affiliated player.
