REGION — Ice cream, swinging in the shade, jumping in the lake and boating were ways that some people chose to cool off Tuesday afternoon, July 2 on one of the first warm days this summer.
Three sisters from Ohio and other family members stopped at the Ice Cream Shoppe in Farmington for an ice cream treat. The group was just traveling through on their way to North Country Outfitters in Bingham. They hoped to see some moose during a guided nature trip.
Jacklynn Taylor and her children, 3.5 year old Alder and one year old Ivy were seen at the swing set in Bishop Memorial Park in East Wilton. The children were pushed periodically by their mother. Each wore a wide-brimmed white hat to keep the sun off their face.
“We walked from the Whistle Stop Trail. It gets the energy out,” Taylor said.
At Kineowatha Park in Wilton, the 21st Century Kids of F.R.A.N.K.L.I.N. summer program was winding down for the day. Children were seen on the swing sets and other equipment while waiting for parents or the bus to pick them up.
The program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Free lunch is provided.
At the beach some youngsters dove off the dock while others played catch in Wilson Lake with a football. Some used pool noodles to keep themselves afloat.
Stacey Skidgell of Wilton was helping three year old Spencer Nelson of Jay scoop wet sand into forms to create figures Spencer later crushed with a toy truck.
“I’ve lived in Wilton 13 years. I love this town. I’ve never seen a community like this one,” Skidgell said.
At the swim area across from Bass Park, youth and adults alike were seen cooling off. The temperature was still in the high 80s but the wind was starting to pick up, creating waves on the lake’s surface.
One couple was seen trailering their boat for the ride home after a day on the lake.
