NEWRY — The Mahoosuc Land Trust of Bethel is hosting a hike up Bald and Speckled mountains in Peru on Saturday, Oct. 9, to provide information about its newly-acquired Concord River Easement of more than 4,600 acres.
Participants are asked to meet at the parking lot across from the Bear River Trading Post at the junction of Routes 26 and 2 in Newry at 9 a.m.
From there, it is a 25 minute drive and three hours of walking time, the trust reported.
Views of the trust’s new Concord River easement can be seen from the mountains, trust President Steve Wight said Friday.
Formerly the property of The Nature Conservancy, which asked the trust to place it under easement, the land is now owned by a computer programmer in Long Island, N.Y., Wight said.
The report states that the hike up Bald Mountain involves 90 minutes of walking. It “is considered a moderate hike with some short, steep sections, a section of trail shared by a small stream, plus the usual rocks and roots of a backcountry hiking trail,” the trust reports.
Participants will view a remote pond, two above-treeline peaks, and traverse three townships.
