AUBURN — A Gray man was listed in stable condition Sunday night at Central Maine Medical Center after crashing his car into a utility pole early Sunday morning.
According to police, the driver, Scott Arthur Dingwell, 31, of Gray was traveling north on Center Street at about 2:55 a.m. at a high rate of speed.
Dingwell went through the intersection of Turner and Center streets without any indication of stopping. He then ran off the right-hand side of the road, traveled up onto the sidewalk and hit a utility pole.
Damage to Dingwell’s 1997 Chevrolet two-door was estimated at $3,000, and the car was determined a total loss. Damage to the Central Maine Power utility pole and transformer were listed at $10,000, and the unit had to be replaced.
Alcohol may have been involved in the crash, which is still under investigation.
