RUMFORD — Among the new business items that selectmen will take up at Thursday night’s meeting are bids to replace the Police Department flooring tiles in the dispatch room and changing parking restrictions on Route 232.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Rumford Falls Auditorium.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said the Police Department received an ergonomic grant to replace the dispatcher’s table. Puiia said he’d like to also replace the broken and worn out tiles prior to installing the new desk.
He solicited bids and received two: one for $4,329.98 from Floor Systems and the other, which came in past deadline via fax, $5,726.41 from Northland Custom Flooring.
Selectmen are expected to decide which company gets the job.
As for Route 232, Puiia said there is a small parking area for about six or seven vehicles close to Route 2.
“The town posted it back in the 1960s for church use only, but there’s been issues with people leaving their cars their long term,” he said. “It’s developed into a park-and-ride lot.”
He said he contacted the Maine Department of Transportation and learned that because Rumford has an ordinance in place to govern town street use, the town can change the area’s designation.
He’s recommending to selectmen that they post the tiny lot as two-hour use for anyone and not solely church use.
“Church use only is not enforceable anymore,” he said.
In other news, selectmen will decide what process to use to regulate wind-power development in town.
On Nov. 2, a majority of voters defeated an ordinance widely thought by many to ban such projects.
Puiia said the board would decide whether they will create a new ordinance from scratch or work from a template. That is the last item on the agenda.
