PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A 52-year-old Maine man on trial for murder for fatally stabbing his girlfriend is telling a jury he woke up in his truck in a grocery store parking lot after the stabbing not knowing exactly what happened.
William Hanaman testified Friday in Cumberland County Superior Court, where he is on trial for the November 2009 death of 47-year-old Marion Shea.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Hanaman said when he woke up in the parking lot, his hands were shaking and his clothes were covered in blood and he remembered some sort of frightening confrontation with Shea.
Hanaman claims he acted in self-defense. The state’s medical examiner testified this week that most of her eight stab wounds were defensive wounds, meaning she was trying to shield herself.
