AUBURN — The Lewiston girls hockey team likes to spread the wealth around.

Seven different players scored as the Blue Devils defeated Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland 8-0 at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday night. Madison Conley had two goals and three assists.

“In a situation like this in the last game of the year, kids press, they want some recognition but I didn’t see anyone pass up pass opportunities,” Lewiston coach Ron Dumont said. “So, they did a real good job of that. It was good our two senior starters Brie Dube and Madison Conley (scored). That’s really nice.”

Kristen Lachance had a goal and three assists and Leah Landry had a goal and two assists. Kim McLaughlin made 11 saves for the shutout.

It took only 40 seconds into the game for Lewiston to strike as Landry’s shot behind the net hit the back of the legs of Red Hornets goalie Mckenzi Horton (37 saves).

“That first one, I felt bad for (Horton),” Red Hornets coach Dana Berube said. “When you work hard, you end up getting good puck luck and (Lewiston) had it on that one for sure.”

The Red Hornets were able to keep the Blue Devils at bay for most of the first period until the final minute. Lilly Gish’s point shot was deflected by a Red Hornet and changed direction on Horton and the puck went into the half-open cage. Paige Pomerleau and Conley had the assists.

Lewiston had another fast start to the second period as Leah Dube stretched the lead 43 seconds into the period.

Midway through the second, the Red Hornets were able to get three shots on McLaughlin in a row. McLaughlin made all three stops.

“Again, we got hemmed in our zone,” Berube said. “We wasted a lot of time and energy in our own zone. It’s always better to be on the attack then being on the defensive like that. Our girls worked hard and ultimately that’s what I was looking for.”

Lewiston struck again in the final minute of a period as Conley picked up the loose puck in the slot and put it home. Lachance and Gish had the assists.

“It was awesome scoring two goals, but the most important thing to me is my teammates and they (had the assists) and they mean the world to me,” Conley said. “I couldn’t score those goals without them. We always work as a team and together.”

The Blue Devils weren’t able to score in the first minute of third period but did get two shots on goal.

Lachance added Lewiston’s fifth goal of the game, with Conley notching the assist.

“She has been coming along. Several weeks ago we put her (on a new line) and she started to get her legs under her,” Dumont said of Lachance. “Unfortunately, we are at the end (of the season) but you have to look ahead too. She did a real good job tonight.”

Pomerleau added the Blue Devils’ sixth goal as Horton made the initial stop on Lachance but Pomerleau put home the rebound with just under four minutes remaining. Conley had the secondary assist.

Dube scored Lewiston’s seventh goal, and Conley added the eighth goal with five seconds left.
