Pre story
Once there was an adventurous teenage girl named Kate. Kate’s parents got divorced. Her dad died two years after the divorce and her mom died six years after the divorce. Kate had absolutely NO family left. Or so she thought.
After ten years in an orphanage, Kate received word from her grandma that her grandpa had just passed away. Her letter also said her grandmother owned a castle and that she would like some company. So if she wanted to she could get out of the orphanage and go live with her grandma. I am that girl and this is my story. It’s a very good story. Let me tell it right.
Chapter one
I ran up to my room and wrote this note in my BEST cursive handwriting:
Dear Grandma,
Thank you so much for the note! I’m sorry and a Gazillion times sad about Grandpa. The answer to your question is, yes, I would love to come over to the castle and spend some time with you! See you soon!
Your beloved granddaughter, Kate.
I then pulled out a separate piece of paper and wrote a note to Miss Alivia Bradberry, the home for girls’ owner.
Dear Miss Bradberry,
My grandmother has offered for me to stay with her in her castle and I have taken that offer. (No offence!) So I am leaving tomorrow at the crack of dawn for the city.
Best wishes, Kate.
I then silently went down the hall and laid the note on Miss Bradberry’s perfectly made bed.
Chapter two
After supper I packed my bags and went to bed. I dreamt about living the castle life, yelling at the maids to serve my every need, having parties every night, fighting all the bad guys away, overall just having the best life ever.
Chapter three
The next morning at the crack o’ dawn, I was in an Uber riding down the mountain to the city in the valley.
“Castle life, here I come!” I yelled, which certainly made the driver jump. “Little miss, you may not be aware, but it is only six a.m.!” said the driver, “You must be MUCH more quiet!”
“Sorry sir,” I replied, “I am just super excited to see my Grandma Betty,”
Chapter four
By eight a.m; I was knocking on the door of my grandmother’s castle.
“Who is it?” said a voice from inside the house.
“Grandma? It’s me! Your granddaughter Kate!”
“Kate! Come on in!” said her grandma flinging open the door, “I have a bed all made out for you and I made plans for what we could do tonight!” she pulled an itty-bitty list out of her pocket and gave it to Kate. This is what the list looked like,
Kate’s first night in the castle fun night By: Grandma Betty
#1. Eat an ENORMOUS dinner
#2. Watch scary movies
#3. Tell scary stories
#4. Go to bed.
“Can’t wait to do all of this tonight!” I squealed, “May I go unpack my stuff now Grandma?”
“Oh! Yes! Where are my manners? Let me show you to your room!”
Grandma Betty led me up like, twenty flights of stairs, through forty-one doors, and into a GIGANTIC bedroom. I wouldn’t think that her oldness would let her bound up the stairs like she did.
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I squealed again.
“See you soon dear,” said Grandma Betty.
‘’Yes Grammie,” I replied. I began to unpack my trophies from all the sports I’d done and put them on the dark brown wooden shelves, and my books on the light brown shelves. My school supplies went on the desk. I was SUPER organized so I did things like put trophies on dark shelves, and books on light shelves. Next, I stocked the closet so full it looked like it would explode open. That was serious overpacking because my outfits had to be carried by 10 jets in this huge net. (exaggeration)
A loud bell rang and I let out a sudden “Aaaaaaagh!”
“Kate! Dinner’s ready!” said Granny Betty.
“Coming Gram!” I replied. I then walked back through the forty-one doors, back down the twenty flights of stairs and into the massive dining hall. The chandeliers were so bright that my eyes started burning. Grandma Betty had prepared my favorite meal: Sushi… Raw sushi; mashed potatoes, and stuffed shells with alfredo sauce.
“So, how’s unpacking going Kate?” asked Granny.
“Good,” I replied, “Do you have maids?”
“Do I have maids? Do I have maids?!” said Granny, clapping her hands twice. Twenty-five women came out from the family room.
“Yes.Yes you do,” I said in awe, finishing my dinner.
“You may have 5 of my best personal maids to serve your every need,” said Betty, “Those 5 are Ashley, Grace, Lexi, Tara, and Maddy. Now run along and finish decorating your room. Have fun!”
“I will Granny!” I replied.
I finished decorating my room in an hour thanks to my maids’ help, so I could finally get some sleep after a loooong day.
Chapter Five
The next day I had 5 difficult chores. Feed every single animal in the barn, clean out the animal cages/pens, prepare all meals, clean all of the rooms, and organize the library. Oh, and also, they all had to be done by sunset OR ELSE.
“Ugggggh! I’ll NEVER get all this done by sunset!” I groaned. I was only half way through step two: Clean out the cages/pens and it was already noon! Of course I’d already prepared lunch: P.B.& J. Easy enough. Suddenly, I got an idea. Granny Betty didn’t know it, but I just might get all my chores done by sunset. Just maybe. “Grace! Tara! Lexi!” I yell at them. The girls come running up to me and say in unison,
“Yes Master Kate?”
“Granny has given me 5 very difficult chores that need to be done by sunset or else. I need your help so I don’t become dead meat and you mustn’t tell my grandmother,”
“Ok!” They replied.
“Grace, you organize the library and when I’m done here I’ll come to help you,”
“On it!” replied Grace.
“Tara, you prepare tonight’s meal: porcupine meatballs, mashed potatoes, and broccoli,”
“Yes Miss,” said Tara.
“…And Lexi, you will clean the house and the other two maids will help you. I want you to tell them that. Got it?” I said in a stern voice.
“G…Got it Miss,” said Lexi.
“Good. You girls deserve a break after dinner. See you soon! Good luck!”
A half hour later I finished the cages/pens and went to help Grace in the library. Surprisingly, it was FINISHED, like, gleaming clean!
“Wow, Grace! I’m Impressed that you could do that in just a half hour!”
“Thanks, Kate!” replied Grace.
Next, I went to the kitchen to see how Tara was doing. She was done too, so I went to find Lexi, Ashley, and Maddy done too. I was too impressed to even be able to speak. So I didn’t. I just turned to go find Granny. I did, eventually, but she was asleep in the chair. So I pulled out a post-it note and wrote:
Dear Granny Betty,
I finished all my chores and will be in my room.
Love, Kate.
Chapter Six
“Kate Betty-Ella Gemstone!” yelled Grandma. With the tone of voice that she had, I could tell that she had probably seen the note and wasn’t too impressed with it.
“Kaaaate!!! I’m waaaiting!” Uh-oh.
“Uhh… Coming?” I said with my face turning a little pale. I slowly walked down to the dining room.
“Time to start dinner Miss Gemstone,”
“Oh! Uh… Did you get the post-it note I left you?” I asked.
“Yes, dear. And I’m very impressed with you,”
“Thank you.”
After dinner we had a fun night and went to bed. I never ever had to worry about not having a family ever again.
