Supplies:
Food coloring (liquid works best, not gel) in blue and green
Plate of milk (2% or whole works best)
Dish soap
Instructions:
1. Drop lots of drops of green and blue food coloring onto the milk
2. Drop small drops of dish soap onto the food coloring and watch what happens!
3. When your finished, it will look a lot like the earth! Happy Earth day!
Why it works: Soap is a surfactant, which reduces the surface tension of the milk. This allows the colors to spread easily across the surface.
Extra credit: Ask your kids to “hypothesize” what will happen when the soap is added, and talk about their hypotheses.
