A picturesque feature of the May Festival, Friday, will be the doll carriage, cart, tricycle and bicycle parade, Maypole dance and musical program, in charge of Mrs. Harry Wilson, Miss Elizabeth M. Peables and Mrs. Rufus Lord.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Participating in Youth Day services Sunday, May 28. at the Auburn United Methodist Church will be Janice Keene, Peter J. Brann and Sue Harpell. Janice and Peter will deliver the sermons, entitled, respectively, “Try a Little Kindness” and “Listening to the Sounds,”’ and Sue will act as worship leader This observance will take place at the regular 9:30 a.m. service at which special music will be provided by the Cherub Choir, the Chapel Choir. and a quartet composed of Karen Marsh, Janice Keene, Patti Nichols and Laure Haynes. Patti Nichols will lead the call to worship. and the invocation will be given by Grades One and Two of the church school, the responsive reading will be led by Tim Jordan and, as an outgrowth of a third and fourth grade unit on prayer, original prayers will be shared by Marcia Larrabee, Douglas Bartlett and Brian Whittier. The Rev. George E. Bullens, pastor. will address the children briefly. Ushers will be Mark Larrabee, Kevin Luttrell and Mike and Tim Rice.
25 Years Ago: 1996
Derek Lee Lavertu will entertain members of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees with magic when they meet May 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the Ramada Inn. This will be the final session until fall. Lavertu, who has been a performing magician for the past four years, will be sophomore at Edward Little High School in the fall. His other interests include tap dance, having taken lessons at the Lois Camire Dance Studio for the past 11 years. He also has been seen in several plays at the Community Little Theatre.
