BETHEL — At Monday’s meeting, Bethel selectmen set Monday, June 14 as a date for a public hearing on a proposed sewer rate increase. The hearing is being held at the Bethel Town Office and will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Effective July 1, “a minimum quarterly base pipe fee charge not to exceed $200 will be assessed, based on a minimum volume of 1,500 cubic feet regardless of actual metered water usage below that volume,” according to a letter sent out to residents. The letter also mentions that a rate of $0.18 per cubic foot of metered water usage will be assessed above the 1500 cubic feet.
The current billing rate has a minimum quarterly charge of $190 being assessed based on a minimum volume of 1,500 cubic feet regardless of actual metered water usage below that volume. Each unit is also getting charged separately. A rate of $0.16 per cubic foot of metered water usage is currently being assessed above the 1,500 cubic feet, according to the letter.

In other news, Selectmen approved a request from the Bethel Alliance Church asking to use Davis Park for an outdoor “backyard” vacation Bible adventure. According to the letter, Church members are tentatively planning to do this backyard vacation three Wednesdays this summer (June 16, July 14, Aug. 11) from about 4 to 6 p.m.
