Paul Parquette: Cloutier a representative for all
I was so grateful to hear Rep. Kristen Cloutier has decided to run for House District 94. My only complaint is that my neighbors and I were not included in her new district after redistricting was done. After many years on the job as a school bus driver, I found myself unemployed because of the […]

Stan Tetenman: Republican Party leaves much to be desired
As a party, Republicans leave a lot to be desired. The Conservative Political Action Conference invited the Hungarian autocrat, Viktor Orban, to speak. Many Republicans praise him. The Maine Republican platform wants to eliminate the state income tax, prevent any talk in schools about transgender students, not just in early grades but through high school. […]

Ralph Tuttle: Kudos to EL class of ’51 for naming arts center after Gay
Hats off to the Edward Little High School Class of 1951 for its wonderful gift memorializing the school’s late great music director, Donald Gay. By naming the new performing arts center in his honor, the graduates have shown the importance of arts programming to the community. Ralph Tuttle, Auburn

Peggy epitomizes the kind of […]

Leonard Pitts Jr.: You don’t treat a human being like this
The killing of Craig Ridley is a reminder that luxuriant cruelty carries a price beyond that paid by the victim. In what sort of civilized society, after all, do people walk past a paralyzed man begging for help?

Susan Lea: People need to stop removing, damaging political signs
I ask people to please stop removing and damaging political signs. I am interested in local politics. This year I decided to help make candidates’ names more familiar by putting up a few signs for two of the candidates. I did not expect some signs in Poland to be removed or damaged. I have cleaned […]

Rich Lowry: Biden deserves what he’s going to get on the economy
If President Biden is offering poor explanations for poor results, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what he says. No presidential statement can compete with declining real wages and steeply increasing food costs.

Gregory Nadeau: Gov. Mills a ‘uniter’ deserving of re-election
I am proud that my 35 years in public service began as a member of the Maine Legislature in 1979, representing Lewiston throughout the 1980s. Janet Mills was elected district attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties and, in my role as a legislator, I worked with her from the beginning of her career in […]
